ERCP is the short form of Endoscopic Retrograde CholangioPancreatography. What does this big name mean?
Let’s understand these words.
Endoscopic means we use an instrument called an Endoscope to view the interiors of the intestine or gut.
CholangioPancreatography itself is a big word which is a combination of “Cholangio” which means the bile duct, “Pancreato” which means the Pancreatic duct and “graphy” which means the visualization of these ducts.
Finally, the word “retrograde” means we go in the backward direction from the intestine towards the liver or pancreas.
